Journal entry: My week on the farm. From the very first day they told us we would be going to the farm, I couldn’t wait for my week to come. I knew going to help would mean a lot of work, but I knew how much I enjoy farm work, and just being on the farm in general. I really enjoy getting dirty, especially when I’m in clothes I don’t mind getting dirty. So I knew this was the perfect opportunity to get lekker dirty without having to worry. I was also very excited knowing that Mia and I would be going together. We had some fun conversations about all the snacks we would be taking with us – and we did!!!
The first two days were great! I had so much fun working with the nastergal and sorting through it. I even enjoyed getting all messy and sticky from the nastergal juice. I had some fun moments driving on the back of the bakkie with Dunchan, one of Oom Loutjie’s ‘voormanne’, and we had some very funny moments of him trying to teach me, Zulu. The evenings with the girls were great fun. We had many awesome conversations and had great laughs about working with the ladies who were picking the natsergal. Almost every night, we made tea and sat around the kitchen table just chatting- this was definitely a highlight for me.
On the third day, Wednesday, I felt so sick. I had a fever, my chest ached, and my nose was running a lot. It was hard for me not to feel well and be away from my parents. However, I was so blessed to have been around Oom Loutjie and Tannie Zelda, who are my family; they really helped me a lot that day. I still went to work in the nastergal field that day, but even though I didn’t feel great, I still felt God’s grace being there for me to finish the job well. The next day, I already felt a lot better! I was able to work without feeling sick. I did have a few confrontations with people – what a growth point for me. I was challenged with emotions, and I definitely had moments where I had to eat an extra spoonful of cement to grow a stomach. But every morning when I opened my Bible, the Lord took me to a scripture that helped me get over whatever I was feeling. I truly experienced the Word working because it is not about my feelings but about me being sifted to be lifted, shifted and to show that I grow!
When Friday came, I was almost sad. I really didn’t want to leave! I enjoy the farm so much that I wanted to stay another week. This week actually just made me realise again how big a responsibility farmers have when it’s harvest time. It’s extremely busy! But even though it’s a lot of work, I could see how God’s grace is there for Oom Loutjie in harvest time. One day, he told us how much we actually help him and how much easier it is for him that we are there. I was so blessed when he said that. What a privilege to be a labourer in someone else’s field while they harvest their blessing! I’m glad we could serve him, even though it actually felt like he was serving us for making this opportunity possible.
My first week at Ixchange was blessed beyond measure. The first day, I was quite nervous for what was to come. However, from the moment I walked in, I felt right at home, and I felt so much peace- I knew instantly I was where God wanted me. I was so blessed in how everyone was being intentional with me and the other first years. They definitely added so much joy to my first day.
I honestly thought we were going to be in back-to-back sessions the whole week. We did have a lot of sessions, but not nearly as many as I thought. It was nice having that extra time during the day to have been able to spend time getting to know the other Ixchangers, and getting used to the flow of the office. I had such fun moments having lunch with different people everyday- I enjoyed getting to know people at the lunch table.
I had a few struggles this week; just having to deal with all of a sudden being around 60 people, where it was usually just me. I did say to the Lord before coming that I want to be stretched in ways I have never been stretched in because I know that’s how I will grow. One morning I was sitting thinking about how some situations that happened were hard for me, when the Lord asked me if I wanted to be stretched. I said, “Yes.” He replied by saying, “Well, then you have to allow Me to stretch you.” So, where my growth point now lies is in not complaining and sulking when I am being stretched, because I want to grow and go to new levels.
I am so grateful that Ps John and Ps Sharon made time for us to spend some time with them.
For quite a few weeks I was struggling with somethings internally. I had many negative thoughts- “Why am I here? Did I really make the right choice?” But when Miranda told us about the orientation, I was so thankful and really expectant. Ps John said a lot of powerful things, but what he said in closing in the first day really helped and blessed me a lot. He said:
“If you just stay in the favour of God. If you just stay in this place. Stay in this Place Stay in His place of blessing. Stay in the place of this anointing.
Don’t let your minds be troubled. Don’t let your heart be troubled. Don’t try and answer the questions of your future beforehand. Just stay in this place.
You will find that the answer will come. You won’t have to go seek them, they will come. That is the Word of the Lord for all of you, today. Don’t go seek for answer, the Word will give them to you.
Just stay in the place of peace. Stay in this place of favour Amen.”
I don’t have to answer any questions concerning my future- all the answers are in the Word. I don’t have to trouble my mind about my future- all the answers will come if I stay with the Lord, and stay in His Word.
Some of my notes:
The relationship is more important than being right or wrong. Expectations can lead to disappointments – stay connected to God, my desires (expectations) need to be His desires. Exchanging is having a relationship with God. If I want to exchange, then I have to be in an intimate relationship with God. I want to know Him intimately. If I don’t have an intimate relationship with Him, then He only knows about me. My relationship with Jesus is the most valuable thing I can ever have.
Obedience – will I be obedient when it doesn’t make sense?I need to get out of self-reliance.
DON’T WISH AWAY YOUR TIME OF GROWTH, ENJOY THE JOURNEY!
I want to become a disciple of excellence. My answer to Ps John’s question (what do you want to get from God this year?) was-
I really desire to go to America, and I desire to show that I grow. There are many areas in my life where I am very aware I need to grow- and I really desire to show that I grow. I desire that my spiritual glow will be visible so that I can be more like Jesus on the earth. I want to change and I want to crack- that’s the only way I will grow. I did not expect our orientation to happen in the way that it did; but I’m very grateful for how it happened. It blessed me so much that all the Pastors and both team leaders were there. A few people shared their testimonies, and it was so amazing to hear how God so intentionally brought them to where they needed to be; to hear how His hand was upon their lives, and still is.
Highlights of the Trip:
I really enjoyed the whole trip- but here are a few of my main highlights- I couldn’t just pick one:
Camp Meeting Sessions:
Easter Weekend Sessions:
When Jesus saves us, He saves us from a certain future that will kill us- a certain future of death. I am doomed without Jesus.
Soteria- the act of constantly being saved. We are constantly being saved.
I am continuously being saved from death into the blessing of life. Living in health, prosperity, and blessing is the act of you constantly being saved.
The only way I can learn to swim, is through swimming lessons. My spiritual swimming lessons are the Word coming to me every Sunday and during the week. I have to learn to apply the lessons to my life, so I can get stronger at swimming.
Sometimes we are so busy that we think we don’t need swimming lessons; one day, you will find yourself in the water, unable to swim, and no one to bail you out. But God is always there to save you if you call on His name.
